Install your eSIM before travelling: what to check

By eSimaxi · Published on September 7, 2026 · 2 min read

Preparing an eSIM begins with two checks: your phone must support that type of profile, and the plan conditions must suit the trip. Installation and the start of validity are distinct steps.

Check the exact phone model

Consult the manufacturer’s documentation for your device model and purchase country. A phone range appearing on a general list does not guarantee every variant. Check that the device is not locked to its original operator. If the add-eSIM menu is missing or you are unsure, ask support about the exact model before buying.

Read the validity start rule before installation

Validity can begin at an event defined by the provider. Do not assume every eSIM waits automatically until arrival. Read your order instructions; if the start rule is unclear, ask support. Prepare a stable connection for installation without starting too early if the plan activates immediately.

Follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions

Once the order is confirmed and prepared, open the eSimaxi instructions. Use the QR code or activation details as supported by your device. Apple explains international eSIM use and Google explains adding an eSIM on Pixel. Menus can vary with system versions. Do not share your QR code publicly or delete an installed profile assuming you can reinstall it. support.apple.com · support.google.com

Select the correct data line on arrival

Choose the travel line for mobile data and follow its roaming instructions. Check your usual SIM’s settings separately: leaving it active can generate charges under your subscription. If something fails, review the order settings and contact support with the country, model and order number. Keep an offline map while troubleshooting.
